Watch the Skies!
What an exciting week for anyone interested in Astronomy and space. Yesterday we had the Shuttle Atlantis land to get out of the way of our attempt to shoot down the arrant spy satellite US-193. Today there are plans to shoot down the satellite using an Anti-Missile Missile. The missile is going to be a kinetic weapon which has no explosives on it. It will slam into the satellite at speeds around 20,000 mph basically cause both the satellite and the missile to just shatter into thousands of pieces. Hopefully they are able to get the shot off today but there are talks of delays because of the high seas near Hawaii. The navy says it has an 11 day window to shoot the satellite and has two more missiles just in case were to miss it the first time. On top of all that there is a lunar eclipse tonight. Hopefully everyone gets a great show tonight with the satellite going down and the lunar eclipse happening. Luckily I just got the piece for my camera to hook it up to a telescope to take pics. If the satellite goes down I want pictures. If I can’t shoot that then yall will have some astrophotography to check out tomorrow.
